A graphic designer rooted in the study of religion?
Yes! After earning her Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication (Graphic) Design with a Minor in Spanish from Arizona State University, Marisol rolled up her sleeves and got to work designing for public-interest architecture, where she crafted visual language to communicate compelling stories, ranging from an exhibition inaugurating a groundbreaking public memorial to lower-thirds content for video documentaries. It was this hands-on experience that first drew her to the interdisciplinary blending of visual storytelling with historical research and archival stewardship to tell compelling stories about the intersections of Mexican history, identity, and spiritual care that are not only rigorously researched, but also legible to the public and beautifully presented.
While earning her Master of Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School, she conducted archival research at the Archivo General de la Nación (AGN) in Mexico City and partnered with the Recovery program at the University of Houston to process a colonial Mexican collection. Her research interests include material and visual religion, performance, and religious encounter in 16th-century Central Mexico. She believes to her core that collaboration is at the heart of any work worth doing.
